June 1 marked the beginning of the Atlantic hurricane season and it’s time for residents all along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts to get prepared. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s 2016 Atlantic hurricane season outlook, this year will be a near-normal season with a 70-percent likelihood of 10-16 named storms and 4-8 hurricanes, of which 1-4 could be major hurricanes. Florida and parts of the southeast already experienced a major rain dump and flooding from Tropical Storm Colin at the beginning of June.
The early arrival of Colin is a reminder of the importance of having a family emergency plan and a disaster supply kit.
